Wessex Demolition & Salvage Ltd

Wessex Demolition & Salvage Ltd was formed in 1994. The company operates from Fareham, Hampshire, and provides services throughout the UK. It undertakes contracts for developers, major house builders, construction companies, local authorities, and members of the public. Its project portfolio includes demolition of houses, city centre shops, office blocks, schools, hospitals, large factories, petrol stations and forecourts, as well as high rise and complex structures. Services include demolition and dismantling, strip out, façade retention, emergency demolition, asbestos removal, crushing and screening, plant hire, and recycled aggregates.

The company can notify the local council to obtain a section 80/81 counter notice, a legal requirement prior to demolition of a building. It can act as principal contractor, arranging for the termination of gas and electricity. It arranges for asbestos surveys and removal of asbestos-based materials that require a licensed contractor. The company holds NFDC membership, CHAS accreditation, Achilles Building Confidence certification, a Waste Carriers License, and insurance. All site operatives are entered into a robust training programme, with most training done through the National Demolition Training Group (NTDG).

Householders and village residents who commissioned residential demolitions describe a service that was carefully organised from the initial enquiry through to completion. One thing mentioned again and again is clear communication during the project, with the site manager John singled out for keeping neighbours informed about vehicle movements by posting updates in a local community group. Richard is named as the coordinator who oversaw the work, and several accounts praise the skill shown in taking down a house in the middle of a quiet village.

The workforce is described as friendly, thoughtful and hard-working, continuing through heavy rain without complaint. Tidiness features regularly, with the site said to have been left clean each evening and once the work finished, and one customer notes that a large quantity of coal behind a garage was bagged up and removed. Prompt delivery, competitive pricing and an efficient, professional approach are also noted. The company covers demolition, concrete products, scrap and asbestos testing, and reviewers value the personal involvement of named staff as much as the finished result.
